A New Tooth for a New Year
Tooth Fairy Didn't Visit Me
Estimated reading time: 1 minute, 7 secondsIt was a drizzly Friday, and I was sitting in the dentist’s chair, anticipation buzzing in my veins. Dr. Payal Bhatnagar was finally about to place my long-awaited crown. As she secured it in place, I felt a snug sensation—like the perfect cork sealing the top of a bottle. After 194 days of sporting a gap in my smile, the transformation was physically and deeply emotional. As I adjusted to this newfound completeness, I realized how deeply I had grown accustomed to that void. It was almost startling to recognize how much I had missed that simple act of smiling fully.
Unfortunately, the tooth fairy didn’t visit me last fall, and instead of a bit of surprise under my pillow, I faced the burden of dental expenses that my insurance didn’t help with. The weight of these unexpected costs was not just financial but emotional. Many of us can relate to the frustration with how quickly those costs add up and the stress it can bring.
Interestingly, my anticipated federal and state tax refunds will cover what I spent on the dental work. While I’ve never been vain about my appearance, the relief and joy of having a new tooth that blends in with my ordinary look is immense. It’s a small change that has made a big difference, allowing me to smile more confidently now.
