Elyssa and Mike’s Wedding
Estimated reading time: 1 minute, 5 secondsLast night, under the twinkling stars and surrounded by the lush greenery of her parents’ Long Island home, Mike and Elyssa exchanged their vows and became husband and wife. Despite the long drive to and from the venue, the wedding was gorgeous, and witnessing the beginning of this new chapter in their lives was heartwarming. Some of my friends who have also lost their spouses were worried about me attending the wedding, fearing it might be too emotional for me. I assured them that I was there not as a widow but as a proud father celebrating my son’s special day.
The wedding was intimate and relaxed, reminiscent of Jan and my wedding back in 1975. We hope Jan and I are blessed with a lifetime of happiness, just as we have been.
Mike and I hoped his mother could make it to our wedding. Even though I couldn’t physically be with her, I could sense her spirit and love throughout the day. Knowing she would have been overjoyed to see us tie the knot brought comfort and sadness. While I’m gradually adjusting to attending events, it’s still tough to navigate through them without the presence of my beloved partner.
