Grief Group Works
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes, 20 secondsToday, my grief feels like I am not only sailing in calm waters but am beginning to give back to help others who have helped me. Today I was the facilitator of the Saturday Grief Group that Soaring Spirits stopped hosting a week ago. We had 35 participants in the room.
Jan's Love
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes, 20 secondsThe only reason I could even consider doing it at fourteen weeks was because of the love that Jan and I shared. Without her love, I do not know who I would be or where I would be today.
Three Weeks
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes, 20 secondsToday was the third session of this session of the Saturday Grief group. We had thirty-one today, and the last two weeks, we had thirty-five. Today’s discussions engaged more people and expanded into new areas. The group is working!
Four Weeks
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes, 20 secondsToday we held our fourth session of the Saturday Grief Group. We had thirty-four (34) people. Despite my inexperience, the group appears to be working very well. Giving back to others is helping me more than just being a participant.
Helping
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes, 20 secondsI am a very humble person, but I wanted to share this comment from today’s Grief Group that I facilitate.
“Richard, I hope you realize how much you’re helping so many people. All of us! I am so happy to have this support group and a Saturday activity! Thank you, Richard!”
This was echoed by all of the 32 participants. How have I been able to do this when the cause of my grief is so recent? For example, the person I quoted lost her husband over a year ago. Only three people in the group lost their loved ones more recently than me.
The only reason I was able to even consider starting to facilitate the group at fourteen weeks, was because of the love that Jan and I shared. Without her love, I do not know who I would be or where I would be today.
