Lila: A Novel by Marilynne Robinson is an unusual but believable love story. Although different than how I met Jan, this novel is about love and romance that, on the surface, should never have happened. Lila, homeless and alone after years of roaming the countryside, steps inside a small-town Iowa church - the only available shelter from the rain- ignites a romance and a debate that will reshape her life. She becomes the wife of a minister, John Ames, and begins a new existence while trying to make sense of the life that preceded her newfound security.
Jan Comes Home for the Last Time!
A year ago today, Jan came home for the last time.
When Jan heard she needed hospice care, she initially thought of a local agency that did hospice care.
Both of our sons, our Rabbi and me, all said she needed to come home where she could be loved and supported 24/7.
She had asked for the apartment to be full of flowers. Cranford Florist fulfilled her request with beautiful arrangements.
Every other time she had returned from the hospital, I drove her and helped her. This time she came via medical transport.
Love never dies, and it is always more robust than grief!
