Small Talk, Long Walk
Estimated reading time: 1 minute, 15 secondsSmall talk is one of the keys to happiness.
I always engage in conversation, even if all I say is have a nice day.
Whenever possible, I take the time to extend the conversation.
One morning this week, I was walking in Nomehegan Park when I was initially passed by a woman jogging with her dog.
We had passed each other over several months but had not said more than hello.
On that day, I mentioned how we could not see the lake due to the fog rising from the melting ice.
We chatted about the lake’s condition and how maintenance could be improved.
Is that a Swan,” my new friend asked?
We halted to watch a swan bathe by the lake’s edge.
“She seems to be embarrased having us look at her taking a bath,” I said.
“if you bathe in public you cannot be embarrased if people look at you,” she responded.
Not Shakseperian, but the small talk made us happier and the balance of our morning exercise more enjoyable.
Small talk works!

Being Nice is a Miracle
Estimated reading time: 1 minute, 15 secondsAs I finished my walk on North Union Avenue in front of Oasis Restaurant this morning, I saw a woman, I had never met, with a purse on one arm, a bag on the other, and a cup of coffee in her hand.
She was paying for parking at the meter with difficulty, including dropping quarters on the ground.
“Can I hold the coffee?”
She agreed, and I then mentioned the quarters on the ground.
After she paid for the parking, I spoke.
“Have a good day! May you be blessed with happiness every day in the New Year!”
She responded, “Thank you, that is so nice.”
Being Nice to others is a minor miracle we should do.
