Widow Cabin Fever
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes, 49 secondsIn this week’s issue, The New Yorker had an excellent essay on cabin fever. The subtitle was “entwined today with COVID is the age-old mental malady called cabin fever.” Cabin fever exists for those who have lost a loved one and is exacerbated by grief and COVID-19. My go-to strategy to overcome widow cabin fever is taking a six-mile walk each morning.
It helps, but I still find the walls shrinking around me, making my two-bedroom apartment feel like a studio.
With Jan’s spirit by my side, I walk daily, one step at a time, to free myself from widow cabin fever.
